Like most martial arts karate also has Karate Weapons that are used in time of combat or during Olympic sporting events. These karate weapons help you become more flexible as well as move more gracefully as you perform the art of karate. Many of these Karate Weapons in the olden days where of sword like because karate was often mixed up with some Chinese martial arts as well as the Samurai whose main weapon was the samurai sword, however since the swords became outlawed other substitute weaponry came into play. Some of these Karate Weapons were the six foot staff which was known as the Bo, the nunchaku which is two wooden sticks joined together by a chain or a chord, the Han Bo which is the smaller version of the Bo and is mainly a short wooden staff. There is also the Sai, which is a fork like metal weapon used as a pair and Kama which is two sickles used as a pair. Perhaps the most well-known of the variations in karate is Kendo Karate. The term means, the "Way of the Sword." Kendo is a modern martial art which is based upon traditional Japanese sword arts, or Kenjutsu. The Kendo Karate set consists of a helmet, breastplate, faulds and gauntlets. This armor works to protect specific target areas of the body In addition to this specific protective gear, a jacket will be worn as well as a skirt-like garment. A cotton towel is also often used as extra padding beneath the stylized helmet, or men. These different forms of martial arts equipment used in Kendo Karate were carried into the modern kendo. The form of kendo as it is known today began to surface in the late 1700s. The gear allows students to practice with full force thrusts and strikes without any risk of injury. Kenpo Karate was once known as the Ed Parker system because many of the Kenpo instructors trained directly under those great martial artists. However, the founder of Kenpo Karate was not Ed Parker but rather his instructor, Professor William (Willie) K. S. Chow, who began calling his system "Kenpo Karate" in 1949. Kenpo Karate is a Japanese unarmed fighting art that was brought from China to Japan about 700 years ago by the Yoshida Clan and was quickly adopted by the Komatsu Clan. The word Kenpo means literally, "Fist Law," and also refers to its Chinese origin. The Japanese adaptation of this Kenpo Karate Chinese style was well suited to defend against the various unarmed Japanese martial arts of the 12th century.
