One of the most contentious colonial of History of Education in India issues, the teaching of Western science and technology, continues to be problematic.

Before 1947, Indian students were denied participation in the production of scientific knowledge, particularly because there was no "organic relationship between science-technology education and indigenous society" parallel to the European context allowed to develop within the colonial milieu.

History of Education in India, teachers who promoted learning science through vernacular languages, working against the colonial tilt toward literary education in English, made little headway. In the late twentieth century, colonial shadows still colored educational ideology, and the long-term pattern of under funding elementary education had not changed.

The History of Education in India constitutional pledge to provide free and compulsory education for all of India's children remains a distant goal for the twenty-first century, even as Indians who are technically educated and speak English have become one of India's prime attractions for global capital. The challenge of joining indigenism and universalism in India's education system remains.

History of Education in America has seen many changes over the past 250 years.  In order to demonstrate to you how far we have come in education, we will embark on a trip, which will take us across all barriers of time and space, race and wealth, age and gender.

History of Education in America in the primary education of upper class children in colonial days included reading, writing, simple math, poems, and prayers. Paper and textbooks were scarce so boys and girls recited their lessons until they memorized them.

In the History of Education in America three most commonly used books were the Bible, a primer, and a hornbook. As children grew older their schooling prepared them for their eventual roles in plantation life. While boys studied more advanced, academic subjects, the girls learned to assume the duties of the mistress of a plantation.  Education was provided for white students only and was privately taught.

History of Education in America Time Line, children of poor families did not receive education in literacy and religious as those of the upper class did.  Instead, they took on apprenticeships, which lasted from 3 - 10 years.  These were meant to give them a skill that would help them to survive live in the colonies.

According to History of Education in America Time Line most children wrote in a copybook because paper was so expensive. Wealthy children had a tutor (always a man) teach them privately.

History of Education in America Time Line some boys went to grammar school and sometimes even college but never girls. Girls were given lessons on how to run a home. It wasn't even expected for girls to spend any of their time reading! Education was becoming more secular in order to produce socially responsible citizens.
